As Activity instructors we work outside most of the time and that can come with some challenges. Here are some hacks that I can’t live without when I am working. Some might seem trivial but they can be so helpful to make your day run without a hitch.
1- Pocket-sized sun cream.
This one is my personal favorite but I am sure there are plenty on the market that will do the trick. I apply my suncream -factor 50- in the morning from a tube and deal with the white sheen on my face and the stickiness. I really don’t want to be dealing with it in between my sessions- so this pocket-sized piece of magic does just the trick. Just swipe over wherever you need it and that’s that.

2- Mooncup
For all the period having instructors out there, the moon cup can be a real lifesaver. No hassle when I am working whether it's up a climbing tower, standing at the bottom of a zip wire all day, or ending up in the lake, my period is no hassle with this product. I highly recommend it. It has helped me do my job without having to constantly think about my period. learn more here https://www.healthline.com/health/womens-health/menstrual-cup

3- Casio Watches / WEAR A WATCH!!
I know the watch tan line isn’t appealing to some of you but this pink princess is my favorite thing ever. Casio’s are so cheap that it won’t matter if gets damaged or gets lost. Saying that they are built to last and I haven’t had a problem with mine since purchasing. They keep time really well and are super reliable. I could also get one in my signature color so I was sold. Keeping time on session is really important and avoiding getting your phone out is professional and means you are less likely to damage it.

4- Dora the Explorer backpack!
I used to hate carrying around a backpack so I would leave it in the staff room. Then I get to an activity base and forget something alternatively leave things at the activity base. To reduce this forgetfulness I embody the turtle life now and carry everything with me. usually, I am packing….
Down Jacket
Rain Coat
Mini first aid kit
Beanie hat
Sun hat
Suncream (Pocket sized of course)
Climbing tape- It is so useful IYKYK
X2 Water Bottles
Snacks
Change of clothes (Especially if I am on water activities)

5- Tough tag your stuff
If you are anything like me losing your things is a regular occurrence... If I tough tagg things I feel a bit more relaxed that it may come back to me. If you have worked with me you know the water bottle has had overnight stays at most activity centers and walls! The tough tag has worked every time. I got mine here - https://www.toughtags.co.uk/climbing-tags/

Spot the tag!
